Fossilization

A fossil’s original imprint only occurs in a previous geological age. Bones, shells, exoskeletons, footprints, and wood can all be fossilized. Microbes and insects found in amber are also fossils. For inclusion in the fossil record, a piece of amber must be at least 10,000 years old. Normally, a fossil only preserves portions of an organism that are mineralized during life; however, biochemical fossils may include soft tissue, including both blood and protein, which according to their antiquity represent no specified geological age, ie the Jurassic
